We’re excited to formally welcome another librarian, Brittany Vesel, to our team!

Brittany is our new Metadata Compliance Specialist. She works with all matters related to the health of COUNTER and analytics data. Brittany comes to LibLynx from previous roles as a Metadata Librarian at ExLibris and a Content Operations Specialist at Scribd. We are so excited to have another data specialist on our team!

Who are you?

I am from Texas originally, but now I live in the Seattle area with my family. My favorite pastimes are reading and gaming. My favorite way to spend the weekend is playing board games or exploring parks around Seattle with my family. We especially love Covington Park because it has nature trails and a beautiful lake!

Why libraries?

I am a librarian at heart. I have worked in libraries as long as I can remember, going all the way back to helping out at my elementary school media center. By the time I was in college, I knew I wanted to pursue a library degree.

My roles have included nearly everything that makes a library run, including managing circulation, paging resources, repairing books, acquisitions, cataloging, electronic resource publishing, and library instruction. But, my favorites are acquisitions and cataloging.

Are there any particular industry trends that we should pay attention to / that particularly interest you?

One of the major concerns in the technology industry right now is the use of artificial intelligence. I am interested in large-scale ingestion of research used to create “brief AI summaries”. These summaries can and do prevent researchers and students from reading and accessing correct information. These summaries also often reduce visibility of where the research is coming from and are a mix of both attributed and unattributed content.

I see opportunity and challenge for our industry as more companies integrate AI in their platforms. We all need to be watchdogs to keep summaries honest. They are important for researchers, librarians, and publishers who all need to show the impact of research and publications.

Why join Liblynx?

I joined LibLynx because of the company culture–I can work flexibly, during hours that work with family commitments–and because of the interesting work that matters to libraries.
